    1. I liked this book, but wouldn't rave about it and certainly wouldn't pick it up again. SPOILERSAlexandra kidnaps Nichola in place of her drunken brother. From the moment he sees her he's instantly in lust. Nichola starts to have hot thoughts about him a wee bit later (and I mean wee). The first 1/3 of this book is mostly their arrival to his castle and is a repetition of him lusting after her but pulling away cos he knows he shouldn't and she wondering why she is having such thoughts about her k [...]

    2. It sounded so good in a purely naughty way. She is his captive. This book was frustrating not because of any sexually tension being built but my the pure annoyance of the characters. Nichola is just to weak seeming and while she is supposedly falling in love with Alexander she is so against every move he makes going as far as to wish him ill. Their many arguments are tedious at best.Alexander and his brothers are to carbon copy of other, better, stories. Once meeting certain characters, you know [...]

    3. Uninteresting medieval (?) story. Chemistry seemed rather forced. I can't recommend it. I didn't like it or dislike it. The book couldn't keep my interests long enough for me to form a strong opinion either way. I took a lot of breaks with this book.

    4. I really enjoyed this book. The constant battle of wills between Lady Nicola & Sir Alexander. The battle between England & Scotland. I can't wait to read Duncan's story next.

    5. "How had he ever been so blessed to have been gifted with her in his life?"Plot:Series - Grandmother's room in the tower is enchanted. The stones within would draw the one person meant for each of them, "a woman who would teach them to love and make them whole." Book - Alexander, sent to abduct Lord Westcott, finds instead his sister. But money is money, right? So he takes her back to their castle, sends the ransom, and proceeds to fall for her. But an English lass in a Scottish stronghold, espe [...]

    6. **Update**I yield at page 75, as tired as my mind was yesterday and not in the mood to read anything but fluff I could go no further. Bad, unbelievably bad.Sigh.Over and above 1) this medieval Baron's sister called off her own engagement (!!) along with 2) her brother leaves by the *secret passage* that is described as dark with dying rushes fluttering about yet when she's kidnapped by the Scot the second he walks in the door there's a lit torch on the wall just-a-waiting for him. Finally on pag [...]

    8. Sometimes you just pick up a book and can't put it down and this book did just that to me. I have read many books with the plot Scottish Warrior for one reason or another comes in possession of an English Lady, both try and deny their attraction but somehow live happily ever after, and some authors manage to hold your attention better than others. This book really held my attention and I really felt the chemistry between the characters. If you like a bit of romance in the Scottish Highlands then [...]

    9. Lady Nichola Wescott is kidnapped by Alexander MacGruder in hopes that her wastrel brother will come up with much needed money to help his cause. But he does not expect the feelings he has for Nichola, and he must fight these feelings in order to get the ramsome money, in spite of many of his men wanting to see her dead.Add a treacherous ex-fiance to the mix, and a good story ensues. Recommended.

    10. I'm not much of a romance reader, but I needed something lighter between two novels about serial killers and a Stephen King novel, so this was it. I got it as a Nook Free Friday selection. The story kept me fairly interested. I thought the ending was a little weird, but, other than that, it was an entertaining story.

    11. I read this book many years ago and it welcomed you into the adventure right away. A little bit of history, a wave of romance, independent women in conflict with the man they are drawn it by a hint of magic. The series is a must read!! The Brothers MacGruders and the search for justice and women of their heart. Intriguing events, spies, kid napping and many secrets!

    12. Historical RomanceLearning a little of the Times between England & Scotland unrest as well as Romances that could been at this time in History

    13. Good if you want an easy smutty read; I got the whole set super cheap as ebooks. Lots of it is ridiculous and predictable but I just can’t get enough of Scottish highlander romances.

    14. With her brother a drunk, a rake and perhaps even a murderer, the heroine is left to manages what remains of her family's fortune-which is nothing. She is penniless and it's only a matter of time before everyone body finds out. Then one night she in confronted by a stranger in her house. Thinking him to be a man whom her brother owes money to, she tells him her brother is not home. At which point, the hero makes a quick decision to kidnap the sister in place of his originally target. 15. This series has me craving the next book!I took a chance on a new author and am delighted with her work! In this action packed adventure a young lady is dealing with an apparently deadbeat brother, shrinking castle coffers and being kidnapped for ransom. Full of intrigue and action this book explores Nicolas stubborn nature and her captor, Alexanders equally stubborn pride . For a lively and exciting romp through Scotland you definatly want to grab this series.

    16. About the Story: Lady Nichola Westcott, the younger sibling of Griffin, Baron of Monceaux, saw much troubling her brother. He obviously had taken up with the wrong people--drinking, whoring and gambling away their funds until she feared they would be penniless. When she confronted him one evening, he left suddenly down the secret passage that hadn’t been used for years. What was she to do? She was already selling off priceless heirlooms of the family just to keep afloat.“Over the years, sinc [...]

    18. [3.5 STARS]I would have rated it a 4STARS if only I didn't have trouble concentrating on the story so harshly almost as if I'm forcing myself to finish it. There is nothing wrong with the writing--actually--I enjoyed the author's writing quite much. It was a fast and good pace reading. However, I sometimes feel myself reading too much "telling" and not enough "actions" to convince the development of the story. Eventually, it came to the point of comparing works and similar stories with other aut [...]

    19. Firstly, there needs to be serious editing. Grammatical, typographice works.Secondly, the book repeats itselfpeatedly. There's the classic chapter recap, the "I just had an epiphany and just to make sure you don't get lost, I'll repeat the entire thing every time I refer to it for the next six pages," the "PLOT TWIST!" and the "DID YOU SEE THE PLOT TWIST?" recap and the "BUT DID YOU *GET* THE PLOT TWIST?!" recap and the subsequent "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PLOT TWIST WHICH I WILL EXPLAIN AGAIN IN GR [...]

    20. An enjoyable Scottish historical tale of a lady stolen for ransom from her brother's home by the middle son of an enemy clan chief . Hero Alexander needs to raise funds for the war effort to free Scotland from the hated English. Heroine Nichola is easier to capture than her brother the Lord.I liked that they actually treated the captive as one. The book delved into her fear and sorrow and rage at being held against her will. In most of these types of books, the `lass' falls deeply in love with h [...]

    21. yet another free Friday disappointment. the plot had some potential but the writing just made it painful. the dialogue was so stilted and painful to read most of the time it was way too formal sounding to really flow well. the characters weren't really likeable at all which destroyed any hopee the book had. the heroine would've been tstl if this had been a thriller type book she was rather spineless despite her alleged spunk. she held up well for most of the book but at the end instead of actual [...]

    22. As usual with these "hostage/captive" romances, it's hard to believe the heroine is all mushy over the protagonist so early in the book. As with the other books in this series, the unexpected attraction is sort of explained later when we learn a few things about the hero's grandma, but it still is a little troubling, at first, to see the heroine not only attracted to, but APOLOGIZING to the man who abducted her, after she "betrays" his trust by trying to escape! Makes one want to thump her on th [...]

    23. I have seldom read a historical romance that is so formulaic down to the set language (predator, well-muscled frame) and two-dimensional characters nor one with such a hodge-podge of historical research, some of it belonging to later periods than the 1290s. It felt more like Cosby had watched "Braveheart" and for her information. And yet despite this scathing criticism, why did I keep reading, and more, why I am I tempted to read more of the books? I honestly don't know, but obviously the relat [...]

    24. An easy read with decent tempo to it. I had issues with the idea that I may or may not have read it before (to the point that I predicted the ending with the brothers--which makes me think I have read it before and just didn't realize it). The real problem I ran into was disliking the way both characters could intuitively like each other in such a situation. It seemed they started falling for each other far too quickly for the situation (kidnapping). I can understand heat because that is physica [...]

    25. I enjoyed this story. When you're sent on a mission to kidnap someone and they aren't there. Take their sister instead. That is what Alexander did,and things went crazy from there. Believing her brother to be a drunken fool who has left them penniless Nichola doesn't want to tell anyone that there will be no ransom paid. She is brought to Alexanders home and things get even stranger.Fighting their desires in light of the fact that they are supposed to be enemies.Alexander will not leave Nichola to [...]

    26. Diana Cosby's 'His Captive' has brought me back to historicals :-) I had forgotten how wonderful they are to read and especially with paranormal added. Lady Nichola did not expect to be kidnapped by Alexander or feel such a powerful attraction to this man. Alexander fights to keep his focus on avenging his father's murder but cannot deny the passion to have her in his arms and to keep her safe - even from his own brother. They soon learn what it is to sacrifice and protect their for each other. [...]

    27. A cute little romance novel where she is kidnapped and held for ransom, and the kidnapper and kidnappee fall for each other hard. News reaches Alexander and Nichola at his castle that her brother is dead and she is penniless, she decides to finally flee because she feels he has pushed her away (little does she know his brother, Patrik, has been saying she is a spy). Her life is at stake when his brother finds her and tries to kill her but not before Alexander comes to the rescue and who should a [...]

    28. I adore Nichola. She is, in many ways, innocence embodied, even while being forced to be unusually mature for her age. Her brother is in charge, but usually absent, her parents are dead. She is gradually being forced to sell family heirlooms just to pay the billsAnd from there, things get worse for a while. The book moves relatively fast, with appropriately rapid plot development - and twists. The ending, however surprising, flows nicely from the presented "facts" and the addition of a tiny bit [...]
