    1. Saya selalu terkesima dengan cara beradaptasi para antropolog bersama para suku-suku pedalaman, apalagi di Indonesia. Walaupun terkendala masalah bahasa, tapi kemampuan bertahan hidup bersama suku-suku asing (bagi mereka) itu buat saya sesuatu banget lah. Mereka pun sedikit banyak jadi paham budaya mereka sampai hal yang paling sensitif. Dan ini, buat saya seperti suatu tamparan. Kalau sebagian besar kita mengenal istilah Islam KTP (artinya belum ada kemauan dan usaha keras mengamalkan islam sec [...]

    2. I liked the 'Ring of Fire" videos a lot, but this book is even better. It contains considerably more information than the videos, and its style is superb. The book describes Lawrence and Lorne Blair's explorations in Indonesia in the 1970s and 1980s: headhunters, grubs for treats, leeches, visions, dragons, semi-pirates and more! Lawrence Blair's writing is witty, moving, and never fails to entertain. This is easily the best travel account I've ever read and a fitting companion to Wallace's "The [...]

    3. liat sinopsisnya jadi merasa ketampar Ring of Fire menceritakan persinggahan kakak-beradik Blair di kepulauan paling besar dan kurang dikenal di dunia yaah kita tau itu mengarah kemana :(

    4. Fascinating tales of adventure travel complete with Asmat cannibals, primordial Komodo dragons and the elusive 'dream warriors' of Borneo.

    5. British brothers Lawrence and Lorne Blair set out in the 1960s on a marvelous, thought-provoking, ten-year adventure through the 3,000-mile length of the remote Indonesian archipelago. Inspired by a dog-eared copy of Alfred Russell Wallace’s The Malay Archipelago —and his nineteenth century voyage of scientific exploration and discovery--their unforgettable odyssey set sail out of the Celebes (Sulawesi) for the Spice Islands on a perilous schooner crossing with the seafaring Bugis. Tossed to [...]

    6. Membaca buku karya Blair bersaudara, jujur membuat saya iri.

    7. Great book recording a number of visits to rarely visited cultures in Indonesia, capturing many unusual practices and ways of life. The work was assembled into a video - Ring of Fire: An Indonesian Odyssey. At least some chapters are available on youtube.Chapter 1 - introduction to Indonesia, and how these journeys started.Chapter 2 - visit to Anak Krakatoa (child of Krakatoa, where they experienced the on-going volcanic activity. A bit on exploration of the area, Darwin and Wallace, and the Wal [...]

    9. Ring of Fire: An Indonesia Odyssey follows the brothers Blair—the intrepid and indefatigable Lawrence and Lorne—on an unforgettable journey through Indonesia. As far as travel narratives go, this one is pretty amazing. From their encounters with headhunting tribes, sinister pirates, and tropical storms to venomous reptiles, bloodthirsty leeches, and lava-vomiting volcanoes, it is almost a wonder they both survived to tell the tale.Lawrence relates most of their adventures from his perspectiv [...]

    11. Just finished reading it, and my first thought is; Blair brothers are really have a strong mental condition, and they are (believe me) super witty. I mean, they still made such a really funny jokes in a tense situation. Well, it supposed to be tense but instead felt horrified, I was laughing (Like what happened in Asmat tribe). I love how they portrayed their odyssey, which doesn't makes me bored. At all. They did 10 years research, adapted from one tribe to the other one, ate their weird food, w [...]

    14. The 'Ring of Fire' films captivated me when they were originally broadcast in the late 1980s and I found the book similarly enchanting. Some twenty years later when I re-read the book I was amazed at how much of it I had absorbed! Lawrence Blair has a wonderful lilting and lyrical sense of prose which is a delight to read, and all the more so because the tales of travel and adventure which he relates here are quite remarkable. I've written at more length about this book and the original films he [...]

    15. This book is really fascinating and a must-read for travelers. An adventure through the archipelago of Indonesia with thrills, mystery and humor. Explore astonishingly rich cultures of the Indonesian islands. While reading, you are feeling like one of the explorers. Chapter Nine "The dream Wanderers of Borneo" was the most mesmerizing part for me. I'm thankful that the Blair brothers shared their adventure of a lifetime with me.

    16. Exciting documents the ten-year voyage of Lorne and Lawrence Blair, through the world’s largest and least known archipelago — the exotic, mysterious islands of Indonesia. These islands form a chain of active volcanos that arc down and around into the Pacific to form the “Ring of Fire.”Read this book make happy, proud and feel blessed to live in a land that (for foreigners) is so beautiful. But is Indonesia still as beautiful as before?

    17. An awesome adventure and exploration through the islands. Blairs brother showed in this book that they learned and discovered lots of things they before imagined. Detail and precise. Made me feel like joining the trip. Even its has Ring of Fire as title, it had very few information about vulcanic and tectonic activity. Books only portrayed Krakatoa as ring of fire, the rest of it are about tribes, tradition, peoples, rainforest, and komodo dragon.

    18. Outstanding! I saw the PBS miniseries when I was in my 20s and couldn't wait to read the book, and it doesn't disappoint. Imagine two wildly eccentric British bothers, one wearing a monocle, sailing around the islands of the Indonesian Archipelago for 10 years with camera in hand, recording everything from cannibal tribes, funeral practices, equestrain war games and rediscovered species in the dry and witty tones of an Victorian explorer. GET THIS BOOK.

    20. A brilliant travel adventure across the vast archipelago of Indonesia; full of mind-boggling tales of animal and human sacrifice, cannibalism and animistic beliefs.Well worth the read, particularly if you're in Indonesia at the time of reading, as I was. If you're not, then the Blair brothers' story will inspire you to visit this fascinating country!

    22. Pagi beranjak siang ini aku bersama mereka, 2 orang asing, menjelajahi negeriku yang belum benar-benar aku kenal kekayaanya. Dia benar-benar membawaku ikut serta menjelajahi Kalimantan, berdebar mengunjungi Otjanep, girang menonton naga serta mengarungi lautan nusantara.

    23. "Indonesia tanah air betaPusaka abadi nan jayaIndonesia sejak dulu kalaTetap di puja-puja bangsaDi sana tempat lahir betaDibuai dibesarkan bundaTempat berlindung di hari tuaTempat akhir menutup mata"

Bravo!

    25. Special place in my heart. The reason our family went to Bali and I have a signed copy by Lorne Blair which I took to his house in Pengosekan. Magic.
