    1. 4 stars – Paranormal RomanceThis had all the makings of a 5 star read: a hot, studtastic cover, an intriguing, unique story, fascinating world-building of the Sicari Order, a sexy, protective hero named Ares DeLuca, exotic locations, exciting archaeology, a good dose of action, adventure, and kick-ass sword-fighting, and steamy romance, but there was one major, annoying flaw that made me lower my rating: the heroine, Emma Zale. She’s one of the most exasperating, whiny, b*tchy, argumentative [...]

    2. Assassin's Honor This is probably the hardest review I've written to date, because this could've been an amazing story. I loved the universe Ms. Burns has created, the story was hot'n'steamy, action-packed (ooh, the sword-fighting), bitter-sweet, tender in all the right moments, angstyUnfortunately it also had a huge problem. A problem that ruined everything that was good in it, obliterating all the enjoyment I could have gotten by reading it. A problem named Emma Zale. The heroine. I know ther [...]

    3. Emma was the most annoying heroine ever. Not only was she whiny and bitchy, but also exasperatingly stubborn. She got angry easily and pretty much ruined every good scene in this book. I loved Ares, though. In fact, I wouldn’t have enjoyed and given it four stars if Ares hadn’t been so deliciously hot. Oh, sweet and caring too which made him all the more endearing. Ares also made me wanna learn Italian. Awesome language, isn't it? I loved it when he used Italian/Latin words, specially during [...]

    4. I was debating myself about reading this, I had read reviews and the synopsis of it, and was unsure as I feel like I've read to many 'damsel's in distress', and tall, dark and drop dead gorgeous (with dark past) coming to the rescue, and them falling on love, having hot and steamy sex sessions, and living happily ever after (in a way), but I picked this book up anyway, and let me tell u it had all that and more (phew!! especially the steamy parts, (inject your fantasy here with Ares), but it als [...]

    5. You know that Katy Perry song "Hot N Cold"? That song kept going through my head while reading this book. The heroine is absolutely REDICULOUS!!! "I love him. I hate him! I'm stubborn because I can be! I'm sorry I interfered. I'm not sorry! I wish I never met you. I'm so glad I met you. You've betrayed me! Nevermind, you always put me first." [she's yes and she's no]Yeah.Intensely "WTF". Which made me wonder what the heck with the dude who follows her around like a lovesick puppy sees in her. yi [...]

    6. What an impressive spicy way to start a new series. Once I started reading this book it made me want to go right out and study Archaeology, just so I could meet my hot Sicari warrior. Oh, did I forget to mention the adventure that comes along with the warrior, well hold on to your seat because this one has an exciting one. With Ares warrior attitude and Emma’s sarcastic charm they keep you enchanted the whole time. I will be vague in this review I hate to give out to much info. I loved the Sic [...]

    7. This was a tough book to write, and as like all writers, if I had more time, I would change a few things to improve the read. There's ALWAYS room for improving something.

    8. 3.5 Stars - 3 Flames When ever I read a PNR, I know that it's going to take at least a few chapters for me to understand the world I'm diving in to. That being said, I don't think I "fully" grasp who the Sicari and Praetorians were and what they were currently doing in today's world. They aren't mortal, but they have powers. They're both searching for the same thing, but the true nature of the item isn't clear to the Sicari, well except the "leader". Don't get me wrong, this was written well eno [...]

    9. **3.5 stars**The thing that drove me crazy about this book was the constant going back and forth about whether the other person cared for them or not! I don't mind it being done a couple of times especially as new things unfold but it was just a bit too much. A lot of people complain about Emma being whiney but I found myself feeling that way about Aresybe not whiney but definitely not taking charge of the situation and making the same mistakes over and over. I am glad that they finally got thei [...]

    10. This was a really great book. I loved the H/HDamn Ares was a dominate male who was soo damn stubborn. Which was kinda fun cause Emma was just as stubborn if not sometimes more so. I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. Monica Burns has a wonderful imagination . Loved the world she created. Nice action scenes with tough rules for Ares to follow. Breaking the rules has harsh punishments. That I wasn't expecting. The chemistry between Ares and Emma was intense. Although it seemed [...]

    11. Why I read: Author asked for review.Favorite Quote - There it was again, that light teasing note that made her go weak at the knees. Not a good thing, but at least he wasn’t kissing her. That would be a disaster. Clothed he was dangerous. Naked he was devastating. Archaeologist Emma Zale just made a discovery that will validate her father’s claims that an ancient order of people, called Sicari actually exist. Deep within a tomb, she recognizes a symbol of the Sicari and calls on her walkie-t [...]

    12. Originally Reviewed For: Tea and BookListen up people, I read Monica Burns' new book Assassin's Honor and fell in love. A Total and complete fall Assassin's Honor is book 1 in Ms. Burns' brand new series, The Order of the Sicari and it's intense, intelligent and totally unique! Yay for unique! Archeologist Emma Zale can see the history of an item whenever she touches it. This would seem like a great gift for an archaeologist to have but it's hard on Emma, the history is often violent and dark. I [...]

    13. ETA: I had to give up, this is a DNF. I have too many other books on my TBR pile to put up with Emma for another 150ish pages.I'm halfway through and not sure if I'm going to make it to the end. It's obvious the author did a lot of research for her world-building, which I appreciate. The pacing was kind of jerky. Sometimes fast and engrossing, other times so slow that I had time to notice the details that were kind of off. The secondary characters (Lysander, Phaedra, etc.) were what kept me read [...]

    14. This is my first Monica Burns book, and whoooo mama *fans self* I wasn't expecting it to be quite so hot! There was a LOT of delicious UST (which I admit, is often lacking these days), and when they finally came together *cough* pun intended *cough* Yeah, niiiiiiice :)I need to start reading more standalone novels, or at the very least, pick books that already have a few out in the series already, because these cliff-hanger endings are killing me :P The relationship between Aries and Emma was wr [...]

    15. Assassin's Honor, the 1st book in The Order of the Sicari series was good but not great. The storyline definitely has potential but there was just something in the author's writing style that kept me from loving it and i'm not sure if i can pin point exactly what that is. I will agree w/ some of the other reviews in that the phrase "sighed in disgust". well as other forms of sighingwere used excessivelyd there were a lot of repetitive thoughts going on in the heads of the "H" and "h". I did real [...]

    16. Well I started this book thinking I would give it a go and I ended up just loving it!This book is about Archeologist Emma Zale whilst on a dig in Cairo uncovers proof of an ancient order of assassins called the Sicari. The male character is a gorgeous hunk named Ares De Luca descended from and ancient roman bloodline. Ares is right up my street - strong, sexy, honourable and devoted *sigh*.The only problem I had with this book is that the writer seemed to love the word *disgust* and used it far [...]

    17. Sooooo, this book. I am giving it 3 stars because there were some compelling aspects to the book for me. But, my main problem with the book was *drum roll* the heroine, Emma! I am not one to really complain about characters, I am pretty easy to please, but she really just fought her journey the entire way and fought poor Ares the entire way too. I know a lot of people on here were enthralled and read this book in one sitting, but that just wasn't me. Darnit!

    18. I was hoping to really like this one but low, it was only ok. In the beginning, I didn't really feel that much of a pull in to the story. The female character was unremarkable even though she had this special "power". Later on in the story, her character was exhibiting conflicting behavior that really confused me and I lost all track as to if I was supposed to like her or not. She was timid and vulnerable in the beginning, but when placed in the same room with the hero, she was domineering, aggr [...]

    19. I am sorry to say that this really didn’t work for me at all. I was hyped to read this book and in the end I was really disappointed. The blurb is promising and the book is action packed with interesting facts and a unique world. I enjoyed the Hero of the book. He is the strong and silent type and very overprotective and that is always my cup of tea. The secondary characters are interesting and they really add to the story. What completely ruined this book for me is the heroine. I have never m [...]

    20. I have very little patience with books these days. This book wasn't terrible but several things bothered me. The constant interjection of Latin words and phrases in the vocabulary of the Sicari (it didn't seem Italian to me). English is my second language and I seldom interject random Spanish words as I speak. This drives me bunkers when it's done in books because I've NEVER known a fluent speaker to do that (if your English is good enough in the first place, then you speak English to people who [...]

    21. Normally, I absorb PNR books like crazy, but I had a really hard time staying engaged with this book. I really enjoyed the premise of the story, but again, I couldn't really engage with the story. I took me well over a week to finish a book that should have been finished in a day. That being said, I think the development of it was good; I think it's more a "me" problem than a book problem.

    22. pretty interesting plot and back story. Ares is, of course, charming. but like other reviewers, i had a hard time with Emma. whe was too rash and moody in my opinion. but the book was fun and i may read the next one in the series.

    23. ❤️❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋Wow what an excellent book , I loved every page , the more I read and the deeper the story got , the more I needed to read .This book is written with passion and affection for it characters, and consequently you can feel the passion Ares and Emma have for each other, it’s so strong and deep you can almost touch it . The story , based around the Sicari Assassins and the Praetorians, is very descriptive and aggressive, as it should be , and has some wonderful [...]

    24. One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday morning is to lay in bed and read an entire book cover to cover with no interruptions (ah, the joys of not having children.) This week's pick for the honor was Assassin's Honor and it was a fun, exciting, engrossing read- perfect for a lazy morning or a day at the beach.Although this book marks the author's first foray into the world of paranormal romance, she jumps right in like a pro and sets up a complex, layered world that I as a reader could reall [...]

    25. ***A complimentary copy of this read was furnished by NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review*** On a dig in Cairo, looking to prove or disprove the existence of Sicari, gifted archaeologist Emma Zale finds what could be proof of her parent's dedication to the same quest. Looking to show her discovery to her boss, friend and mentor in an adjacent cave Emma finds him dead. The police question Emma's involvement beyond discovering the body while she's drawn to a stranger watching her from a s [...]

    26. I shall start with it was not that great. But, the historic and archeological dig aspect was quite pleasing for my eyes to read. The whole mystery of discovering something hidden, finding something everyone believed was a myth and cyphers was something I enjoy reading. On the contrary, I don't like the romantic element tied into all of it! There is nothing else. The two in question, Emma and Aries, were either at each others throats for the most insignificant details or having hot sex. Now, let's [...]

    27. When I finished this book it took me a while to think about if I really liked it and how to rate it. It wasn't a bad story, overall I think I liked. So finally I broke it down this way:What I liked: I liked the Sicari. The author did a good job with building up this secret society with all the laws, heirarchy, and rituals. Her descriptions of them were very vivid (especially the fight scenes whch can get muddled in descriptive detail, but not in this book). I could actually see the fire and feel [...]

    28. Good read, action paranormal. I found the world interesting - it uses an imaginative twist based on some Roman history. Historically speaking, the Praetorian Guard [generally considered to be the good guys, bodyguards of the Caesar du jour]. They were officially dissolved in the 4th century by the current emperor - at a guess that was NOT done as cost-cutting measure. The Sicarii were considered assassins and generally killed Romans and Roman sympathizers. Since they specialized in carrying hi [...]
