    1. You know that horror movie where some shadowy figure is bludgeoning the students at a private ultra-elite school? You know the one, you sit there with your eyes closed through half of it, because, it is THAT gruesome, that “shock-a-fying.” Yet, there is no way you are NOT going to make it through to the ending. Welcome to that movie in words! And we all know the book is always better, because we create the scenes in our minds, we bring forth the evil.JINXED by Thommy Hutson is the story of a [...]

    2. I was sent a copy by the publishers in exchange for an honest review so thank you so much to them for providing me with this! This book is set in a high school where some of the star actors of plays have been gruesomely murdered. This follows our main protagonist as she tries and figures out who isn't committing these murderes. She is also facing accusations of doing these crimes herself. This book was such a fast quick read and I really enjoyed myself while reading this book although the characte [...]

    3. Thommy's bio speaks for itself - and feeds directly into the story. His knowledge of the 80s and 90s slasher movies has clearly formed the basis of this homage in novel form. It's clearly written in a style that allows the reader to visualise, sometimes in gruesome detail, every scene. Readers will love it. Something tells me Hollywood will love it too; the transfer to the silver screen should be seamless.

    4. I loved this novel! The action and tension was solid and the scenes were written in such a way that I was able to "see" what was happening in my head. Amazing. I'll be looking for more by this author!!

    5. A twisted, dark, and frightening read packed with non-stop thrills. Sure to delight those who love this genre.

    6. I received this ARC from Net Galley and am providing my honest review. To begin my review for this book, I need to emphasize just how much I watched 80’s - 90’s slasher films. Because I watched a lot. I think I watched my first slasher film at the age of eight (probably about 2002) and it was Scary Movie. While Scary Movie is more of a comedy, I began to watch actual slashers like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and way way more. I watched these at slumber [...]

    7. I received a free e-ARC through NetGalley from the publishers at Vesuvian Books. Trigger warnings: death, violence, gore.At Trask Hall, an elite high school on a secluded island, the competition can be murder. Students compete to be the best actors, singers, and writers in the school, and the senior showcase is a coveted opportunity to show off their talents to the rest of the world. But someone else is on the island with a sinister agenda, and as Layna’s friends begin to die one by one, she [...]

    8. This was a fun book if not wholly predictable, and reminiscent of those Point Crime/Point Horror books. It definitely feels like a mash up between the television series Scream Queens and the novel Ten by Gretchen McNeil.Perhaps it's a sacrifice of the genre but the characters did at times feel incredibly annoying (like why run off alone and in the dark when there's a killer on the loose?!?!), but at the same time I didn't care about any of them at all. Some elements were a little far fetched thoug [...]

    9. When I first saw this book, I thought it might have had a Phantom of Opera type feel, but I was attracted to it as I have been in a mystery type of mood and what better than High School Killer books. I think though that maybe I pass the YA stage now as I wasn't 100% impressed with Jinxed and it fell flat for me. Jinxed takes us into the world of the prestigious Trask Performing Arts school, very private and only the best get in. Layna's friends are slowly being killed off using the M.O of Supers [...]

    10. Time to break out the popcorn and get out the blanket to hide your eyes Jinxed is so evocative of teen slasher films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream, the scene will rise before your eyes and pull you in. A fun, scary read to while away an evening with some heart-thumping moments and sharp twists and turns. The students of Trask Academy are trapped on the island and the only question is are you brave enough to join them?

    11. This book was amazing, and I absolutely loved it - it was an action-driven, heart-pounding read. Lots of twists and turns, nothing I could predict or expect, and the ending blew my hair back, completely unexpected.

    12. This book was absolutely phenomenal! I was hooked from the very beginning and did not want to put this book down, even for a single moment. It was just that good. The mystery was incredible. The plot was incredible. Everything was so well executed. You truly don’t know what’s going on until the end. It will captivate you, confuse you, and leave you guessing until the very end. Even then, you crave more. More of the story. More answers. I seriously loved this book and only had a few minor iss [...]

    13. If you’re a fan of movies like “Scream,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Urban Legend,” or of Lois Duncan and teen thrillers, get ready for Jinxed! A creepy and fun read with teen characters that truly act and sound like real high school students. Jinxed has several unpredictable twists, and I loved the cool setting--a performing arts high school on an island. It’s clear that the author understands the genre and its conventions and was able to use them to the story’s advant [...]

    14. Honestly I requested this book for early review based on the cover alone. I love this cover! At first this book seemed a bit hard to read, rough around the edges, but I will say the very gruesome and detailed death at the beginning kept me going. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! I love a good slasher/thriller and this was it.I liked the point of view changes throughout this story. THE BIG SHOW STOPPING REVEAL! THE VERY LAST PAGE! This book took me back in time, back to the 90s-00s. Back to the ste [...]

    15. Trask Academy of Performing Arts is an elite, secretive academy set on its own private island. Funded by wealthy sponsors, it teaches only the best students the arts of singing, dancing, acting and writing. But in an atmosphere of intense competition everyone wants to be the star and as the bodies begin the pile up who will survive the show?Jinxed is best described as a young adult fiction horror/slasher with some truly gruesome and well-described murders. However, for me it commits the cardinal [...]

    16. Before I begin, a word of warning. Although Jinxed is intended to be a young adult novel, you should be warned that it is an incredibly gruesome novel from the first chapter and I personally felt that the graphic descriptions of the murders were perhaps a little too much in places. This definitely isn't one for young or sensitive teens, and I would certainly advise parents to flip through it to gauge suitability before gifting it to any readers under the age of sixteen.1980s slasher films are a [...]

    17. So, I was provided with a copy of Jinxed in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Vesuvian Books for a chance to read this debut novel from author Thommy Hutson. First off I can say I like this cover, it is understated and yet captivating enough for you to question it. Next, I will say as a murder mystery this is not my normal genre read. I picked this up because I felt the description was an interesting concept and something I had not seen done before. Of course I looked a [...]

    18. Original review posted on my blog From Ink to Paper I received this ARC from Net Galley and am providing my honest reviewI must say I was excited to read a thriller/horror I haven't read one in awhile so I thought this one sounds fun lets try it! I thought it was a fun read and an interesting plot concept. When I read the description I thought it was fun that it was based on jinx's like breaking a mirror, black cats, cracks, etc. However, when I read it I did feel that was kind of put on the bac [...]

    19. This novel revolves around Layna, a student at the Trask Academy of Performing Arts. This exclusive arts-oriented high school is geared to writing, singing, drama, etc, and the students are expected to excel in the outside world after graduating. But Trask has a dirty little secret; a strident was murdered 18 years ago in a fire at the theatre houseLayna and her friends are staying at the school during spring break to prepare for the annual Showcase, an annual event starring the best and brighte [...]

    20. This is the first book I've failed to finish in quite a while. I REALLY tried, made it to 25% complete, and couldn't force myself to finish it. My biggest issue with this book is that the characters make me want to toss my phone out of the window. I don't like them. And not in the way that I think they are badly written, but in the way that if I met them in real life I would do pretty much anything in my power to avoid talking to them. Rich, spoiled, and oh so trendy. I know that this is not so [...]

    21. I received an ARC of this novel via NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. Trask Academy of Performing Arts is a preforming arts school for the elite. Layna Curtis and her friends are trying to enjoy their senior year. They all hope that they can turn the head of a talent scout or director during the schools performance. Layna is more of a support cast for her talented friends but when her friend is murdered she lands the lead role. As Layna investigates the deaths of [...]

    22. Thommy Hutson's Jinxed is a relatively short story, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. Jinxed is filled to the brim with enough mystery and murder to keep the reader up all night. Trask Academy of Preforming Arts is the definition of perfect. A perfect school, with perfect teachers, and especially perfect students. But like most beauty, it is only on the outside. Dark secrets surround the schools past and one person is determined to bring the truth to light by any means ne [...]

    23. "received an arc exchange for an honest review"dnf at 36%I thought for sure i was going to love this book i mean the whole concept of this book sound so good Break a mirrorWalk under a ladderStep on a crackInnocent childhood superstitions.i would have finished this book if it wasn't for such gory detailed and i mean DETAILED word for word of how somebody died it took like almost 3 pages just for that THANK YOU

    24. Oh boy. It's a quarter to midnight, and I simply had to finish this book. Now I'll have to try and sleep 'Jinxed' is written like the many slasher-movies in the nineties. I kind of grew up with those, and liked how the story developed exactly as I expected. Or did it?Read the rest of the review at my blog:nerdyreading/2018/

    25. I really liked this novel. It's scary and mysterious!! Characters are fun and definitely people I would want to hang out with in real life-- well, some of them lol

    26. The death scenes were gruesome, in some instances unexpectedly so, but it seems as though the rest of the plot was a mere afterthought. Shallow characters, super predictable. Not my fave.
