    1. Fairly interesting and useful for my research being carried out for my next book but ultimately disappointing. Not the author's fault but very little about Grant in it, mostly another history of the Peninsular. The problem is a lack of source material. The writer and his writing is very stuffy and stilted. He can hardly bring himself to suggest Grant may have learned French from girls he encountered!

    2. Biography of one of the characters of the Peninsular War, Colquhoun Grant. He was one of Wellington's 'Exploring Officers' who used to scout far ahead of the British Army, and relied on the fact that their horses were better and better fed than the French ones, to get back to the lines and report. Fascinating to read.
