    1. It's difficult for us to understand just how entertaining and important these comic strips were for both civilians and servicemen (and women) during WWII. Folks at home felt that Caniff was giving them a pretty accurate account of what was going on overseas and Terry and his pals literally kept people going, giving them something to believe in, even if it was just a newspaper comic strip. Of course, it was so much more.
