    1. Starkly told, darkly humorous, and disturbingly plausible, Chris Tusa’s In the City of Falling Stars is set in New Orleans during the Katrina cleanup. It depicts a family as storm-tossed as the city, with failing leadership from the father, helpless betrayal from the mother, and hopeless rebellion and dependence from the kids—a promiscuous college student and a depressed youth who regularly visits the counselor in school. The author’s slightly detached style, describing rather than evoking [...]

    2. Eh. The best thing about this book is it's amazing descriptions of New Orleans after Katrina. Everything else detracted from that: The dialog was stilted and forced most of the time. The unrealistic effects of most of the crimes committed in this book, which is to say crime, especially a certain crime involving the destruction of an expensive vehicle, goes unpunished, even seemingly uninvestigsted. The overuse of certain phrases was distracting, for example everyone was always "figuring" this or [...]

    3. I got an eARC from Chris Tusa last September 2, which was about 6 days before the release of this book. Thank you Chris. Unfortunately, I had books lined up to be read already and I was not able to sneak this in. I only got to read it about two days ago. I am so sorry Chris. So, I guess better late than never reading it all, right? Anyway, this review is just in time for the hard cover release. At first glance, this would seem like a science fiction book. Probably a book about stars because of th [...]

    4. Flocks of birds are dying in New Orleans. Maurice has always been obsessive and in the wake of Katrina, he becomes convinced that the government is poisoning the city’s population. In the City of Falling Stars documents Maurice’s rapid descent from obsession into paranoia, aggression and religious delusion. Its hard times in New Orleans and there is no shortage of persons ready and willing to support Maurice’s paranoid worldview. A real world conspiracy targeting Maurice’s estranged wife [...]

    5. Maurice has a growing paranoia.well.of everything. As this paranoia worsens, so do the worries of his family. And to quote the son"he has a family full of lunatics". And they are destined to become a little more off kilter. The daughter is having an affair with her calculus professor, the wife is having an affair and becomes pregnant, the son is skipping school and smoking pot. Through all of Maurice's faults, you can't help but like the guy. I developed a strange affinity for him. I felt for hi [...]

    6. Seldom have I read a book where utter catastrophe is so utterly entertaining, lol! d well-written, as in up to literary standards as well! A lot of vivid detail conveys the desolated, yet mundane setting, as well the disconnected personalities and situations of protagonist and his family. Society is set in post-Katrina New Orleans, but one senses it could be any post-apocalyptic situation (perhaps this portents, in a sinister way, how things are actually going). Society continues in a quasi-func [...]

    7. Tusa explores the fine lines between being cautious and carefree, sane and insanity. Maurice’s wife had an affair and was pregnant. The ex-lover is running for office and wants the wife kept silence. Maurice hears murmurings in static from appliances and electrical wires and sees visions foretelling the unpleasant future. Their adult children, Brandon and Audrey have problems of their own and its hard being responsibility for their parent’s actions. The grandfather is an ex-com with lots of [...]

    8. A very good book about a character falling into psychosis. His wife is pregnant with another man's baby, it's a year after Katrina in New Orleans, and he thinks the government is after him. It starts relatively benign and just continues to ramp up more and more as the book goes on. It seemed a good portrayal in how someone could go down that path little by little. From the beginning I wasn't sure what to believe was real or just in Maurice's head. That got to be more so the case the crazier he g [...]

    9. You have to like a gritty, dark book to read this. Chris just gets it right with his characters, post-Katrina descriptions and unexpected plot twists and then a little humor which goes a long way in a book. Very nice!

    10. I got a review copy from the author. It sure was different from most I have read but I did enjoy reading it. Thank You for the opportunity to read it

    11. So I just finished it today and I must say it has a very interesting story. I found it very enjoyable to read. I highly recommend it!
