    1. 3.5★s for me. A lovely, heart warming shaggy dog story. Of course I could not resist this book with the face of “Arthur” on the cover. As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words, and Arthur’s face does that, plus some.I’m a sucker for books about animals, and this one didn’t fail to delight.Mikael Lindnord is an elite athlete who takes part in an endurance sport called “Adventure Racing”. Athletes from around the world compete against each other in teams of four. The t [...]

    2. Another excellent animal story, made especially good after the circumstances in which Arthur was found. He has found a true home with Mikael and his family, and hopefully set off a chain of awareness about the plight of homeless dogs everywhere. I've always believed in that old saying about adopting a dog won't help them all, but it will change the life of that one. Arthur certainly has hit the jackpot! It does take around 80 pages or so to get to Arthur's story, beware. I learned more about Mik [...]

    3. I really enjoyed this book. I think it is a great book for animal lovers. At the beginning I was not so interested in Mikael's background and his story about he got into adventure racing but, I realized I needed to understand who he is in order to appreciate the love he felt for this dog.It was really sad to read about Arthur's suffering and sadder to know that the people who made him suffer are living in my country. I feel embarrased that there are no laws defending animals in Ecuador. Hopefull [...]

    4. I read just about every dog book I come across, because I love canines, and I love reading--so it's a perfect pairing. Arthur is a dog who latched onto an extreme sports team during a race in South America. Extreme sports teams engage in very grueling races, this one was 435 miles through the jungles and mountains. The last thing you would think about is coming across a stray dog, much less the thought of being responsible for him after he starts to tag along. Mikael Lindnord, the captain of thi [...]

    5. I followed Arthur's story at the time, loved reading all the details about his new family's background. The determination of Arthur during the race, and Mikael's fight to bring him home was heart warming. If you own a dog, especially a rescue give them a huge hug.

    6. Det var en intressant historia att läsa om. Det är inte svårt att se kärleken mellan Arthur och Mikael.Det vart kul att läsa om deras resa för att mötas och sedan före att förbli i varandras liv.

    7. Arthur is a heart warming memoir of a dog rescue. Mikael Lindnord is an adventure racer. He and his team are on a grueling, 400+ mile race through the jungles of Ecuador when they encounter a stray dog at one of the race's rest stops. In a small act of kindness Mikael shares his food with the dog and the rest, as they say, is history. The dog follows the team along for the rest of the race. What starts as a cute quirk quickly changes as a deep bond forms between Mikael and the dog. They struggle [...]

    8. Much of the book is devoted to adventure racing. If you read it know that the dog appears about half way into the book. It is a likable book but not a lovable one for me.

    9. I was actually not very interested in this book to begin with, the media coverage on this story was huge here in Sweden, what could I possibly not already know. turns out I really enjoyed getting the full picture, told by Mikael. One of the most fascinating parts of this story to me is that he had never owned a pet before, and yet he felt responsible for this stray dog. I also like the language, and the descriptions of how multi-sporting works is necessary to set the scene for the meeting betwee [...]

    10. Seg till en början men det kan mest bero på att det mer handlade om sporten men fastnade helt sedan kapitlet Arthur kom in! Fantastiskt att Arthur valde rätt person att "haka sig fast i"!

    11. What a fabulous read this was! I was aware of the story thanks to the media coverage at the time, and to read it all again was so heartwarming! Was lovely to see how the kindness shown by the author and his team as they were on their adventure race by taking pity on the sad sight they faced when Arthur 'found' them, and how that act of kindness saved him and the determination he showed, despite his injuries and state of well being, to follow them just captured their hearts - and the hearts of all [...]

    12. Een bijzonder verhaal. Leuk om even te lezen en het verhaal een keer gehoord hebben, maar soms was het een beetje langdradig zeker in het begin. Wel een super hond die Arthur!

    13. I usually stay far away from books about dogs as I become way too emotionally attached and, virtually without fail, the dog dies in the end. The cover of this book, however, has a BBC review that states it is "A shaggy dog story with a lovely happy ending", so I felt relatively 'safe' in starting this book. This book does not constitute any great literary feat, and there are no scenes or portrayals that will stay with you forever, and yet I still gave it four stars because it's just such a feel- [...]

    14. I won a copy of Arthur from First Reads. I requested it because I enjoy adventure/survival memoirs and I'm a sucker for heartwarming dog stories. The book and I got off to a bit of a rocky start. Except for a few vignettes about present-day things Arthur likes to do, there's no dog in this dog story until page 85. After sitting through several chapters about Mikael's early experiences as a hockey player and a soldier and a lengthy blow-by-blow of his team's adventure race in Ecuador, I was start [...]

    15. I received this book for free through Giveaways. As always, an honest review.A magnificent story about a magnificent dog. Arthur was a stray dog that Mikael encountered while adventure racing in Ecuador. Many street dogs are only looking for food, aggressive, possibly wary of humans, and the racers aren't looking to make a new animal friend. They want to win. Arthur was special. It's almost as if he knew that Mikael, with his kindness and calm demeanor, was his ticket out of his terrible life a [...]

    16. This tells the true story of not only a dog but of a man, as well. This is their very special story.Arthur was a pitiful street dog in Ecuador when Mikael Lindnord tossed him a meatball. Mikael was there competing in the Adventure Racing World Championship. Arthur saw a good thing and remained with the team. Mikael and Arthur became a team of their own.A campaign to get Arthur back to Sweden began. The racing team took to Twitter to help raise funds. The Ecuadorian Social Affairs Ministry Dept. [...]

    17. The world of adventure racing is a test of extraordinary stamina, endurance and teamwork, coupled with lack of sleep, plus mental and physical suffering. Truly a survival sport. The early part of the book tells us about Mikael's early life and, importantly, his perserverance. It is this 'never give up' attitude and spirit that is mirrored in Arthur. And, for Arthur, following and never giving up on Mikael was a life gamble. The deep bond that develops between them and the eventual outcome is mir [...]

    18. This story is about eighty percent extreme athletic endurance and twenty percent unconditional love. The main event is a race through over 400-mile obstacle course through South American terrain. Readers learns what it takes to host, participate and complete a swimming, biking, running, climbing, and paddling long distance race. This Swedish team is only as strong as its weakest member is. There is a critical turning point in the race when the team forfeits a critical lunch to provide a stray do [...]

    19. I think the story in itself is wonderful. Stray dog finds and tag along a team of adventure racers, one of them decides to take him home.Time. In the beginning of the book, during the race, we get the time all the time (lol). Hours, days, dates but then it kind of collapses. How long was Arthurs surgery? How many hours did he stay in the hospital afterwards? How did his healing go when it seems he went out running just the day after surgery? Names. In the beginning, explaining who a person was, [...]

    20. I picked this book up at Manchester Piccadilly station, 15 minutes before my train was due to leave, and so without enough time to read the first chapter of each book like I usually do, I went for the safest option and grabbed the one with the dog on the cover. Always a good choice! This is a typical touching dog-finds-home story, and for once with no tears involved :) You can tell Mikael is not a natural author, but he has a story to tell and that's what matters. The story is very easy to follo [...]

    21. They say a loving dog finds its person; we don't find him or her. Mikael Lindnord tells the compelling story of how Arthur found him while Mikael and his team, Peak Performance, was competing in an adventure race in Ecuador. The words and pictures emit the mantra that Mikael states throughout the book - whatever it takes. These words are true, not only in adventure racing, but in life itself, especially when someone is willing to go to the ends of the earth to save another living creature. The r [...]

    22. If you're an animal lover, or even if you're not, this book is guaranteed to tug at your heart. Mikael Lindnord started the story by talking about his youth and you might find it irrelevant initially but later in the book you'll realize how the narration about his childhood is crucial in helping the reader understand why he persevered through so many challenges. This book also opened my eyes to the world of adventure racing, which I knew nothing about previously. You can't help but root for Arth [...]

    23. An amazing story in a flawed book. Some of the more unbelievable aspects weren't really investigated - when they started their long kayak journey and were leaving Arthur behind, they mentioned grabbing stuff out of the media van. Why not just put Arthur in the van? They were basically just leaving the poor pooch somewhere completely foreign to him, which, yeesh. Going more into that decision, the ramifications, would have been interesting. The same for much of the journey home - plenty of people [...]

    24. You don't have to be a dog lover to read this; but chances are good you will be one before getting too far in this story. Mikael and his team of adventure racers are competing in Ecuador when Arthur crosses their path. After feeding Arthur some of their meatballs during their break, the team continues on their journey. They never think twice about Arthur until he shows up again and again seemingly on a mission to go with them wherever they do. And from the title, you know that Arthur's plan succ [...]

    25. Beautiful and enchanting story about how our pets can make us better people. While I've enjoyed intensely reading about Arthur, story in itself was a bit lacking in terms of narrative - most of the time it seemed like entirely made of cliches. And altough it is not a bad thing, I just think that if it had more restricted composition. The appeal at the end of the book to help charty which in turns helps stray doga in Latin America. If you are looking for funny, quick read about friendship between [...]

    26. A touching, feel-good story of a stray dog in Ecuador, Arthur, who chose to follow a Swedish adventure racing team as they completed their grueling challenges such as mountain climbing, kayaking, and hiking through the jungle. The story follows the race, the team leader's fight to adopt Arthur and bring him back to Sweden, and Arthur's life in his new home. A wonderful read for anyone who loves dogs.

    27. Never read a book about adventure racing before it was really intense and extreme to read all the trials and tribulations of adventure racing I can understand why some reviewers thought that that section of the book went on too long but I was genuinely interested in it. Overall I liked the story of the equidorian pup finding a new soul mate and ending up with a happily ever after Kind of lost patience with it towards the end because the ending is so obvious but I liked the book as a whole
