3. Te sabe marcar per [...]

    2. This book really reminded me of Kafka's Metamorphosis. A boy fascinated by bugs becomes a giant bug and 'sheds' his humanity. CREEPTASTIC reading!

    4. In The Bug Boy, loner Sanpei Hiromoto is hated by everyone. His problem is he is distracted by his bugs. He loves bugs of all shapes and sizes. Snakes too. Sanpei can’t get enough of those slimy, slithery creatures. His grades at school are consistently Fs. He is feared by all the girls in the school. He is hated by the boys.Every night Hideshi Hino’s Bug Boy is beaten up on his way back from school. His family bully him because of his grades, his brother and sister are straight A students [...]

    6. On the title page of The Bug Boy, we read, "This is the sad and horrifying tale of a boy with a terrible affliction."That pretty much says it all. Little Sanpei is another of Hino's wimpy protagonists with Peter Lorre eyes, shunned by schoolmates and even his family because of his fascination with bugs. You can't help but feel they have a point. Sanpei is also fond of runaway dogs, cats, wounded birds, and the like, but bugs are his passion. Then one day he is bitten by a strange, red caterpilla [...]

    7. Hideshi Hino, Hino Horror, vol. 2: The Bug Boy (DH Publishing, 1975)d now I know why the first Hino Horror volumes are so like Hino's early stuff: they actually are. DH was kind enough to drop the original pub date in this volume: 1975. That predates Panorama of Hell by nine years, and is very much still in Hino's “gross-'em-out!” phase. The Bug Boy, like The Red Snake before it, certainly fills the bill in that regard, with gratuitous dream vomit, human/centipede hybrids, mass murder you kn [...]

    9. As I've said before, Hideshi Hino is, for me at least, apparently an acquired taste that I'm still endeavoring to acquire. That said, there is definitely power here, and all of us can probably empathize at least a little bit with his tormented, weird, morbid, bug-eyed little kid protagonists. In some ways this story marks what I think of as "peak Hideshi Hino," capturing a lot of what I associated with his work, while also not being one of my favorites from among the things I've read by him.

    12. A similar premise to Kafka's Metamorphosis. Similarly quite sad. Nothing upbeat about this, and very little which is scary. Just a sad story about a poor lil bug boy. Slightly better than the rest of Hino's stuff which I've read, although I still don't really get why he is a "big name."

    13. A tale of a bullied boy who is also getting his ear bent by his nagging parents for doing shit at school. For some reason he vomits up a poisonous bug which then stings him and his transformation into a giant bug begins. Revenge is reaped. Apparently this guy is some sort of manga horror hotshot with over 150 books in print but this one felt a little bit trashy. Not much depth, like. And the art ranged from average to Beano style.KAFKAESQUE
