    1. Had not intended to launch into a second book by Chantel Rhondeau immediately after picking up the first onebut the first two chapters of this one were in SEASON FOR LOVE and I was hooked and needed to know more about Cali and Marcus.I'm a big fan of reinterpretations of classic fairy tales, particularly BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and eat up just about any version. This one was definitely a very nice twist.I love that Rhondeau's characters remind us that so much of our self-assumptions are just that. [...]

    2. Rating: 4.5/5Unexpected Gift by Chantel Rhondeau is a story that not only warmed my heart but also reminded me of my favourite fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast.Part of Christmas Pets and Kisses anthology, this is the story of Cali who is new to New York and feels lonely. A lost cat leads her to Marcus Ritz, a rich recluse and they, soon, strike a friendship except that Marcus is only ready to talk on phone and never agrees to meet in person. As Christmas comes near, Cali's hope of meeting Marc [...]

    3. What an incredible heart-warming story on true love that grows from the inside and not based on appearances.Cali Johnson has moved from Idaho City to the Bronx to work as an assistant to an Interior Decorator. She doesn't know anyone and doesn't feel comfortable in her building due to the awful condition it is in but knows she is safe once she can get inside her apartment. One day she hears a cat in the hallway and drops Jasper off at his owners place upstairs, but there she finds more mystery.M [...]

    4. What a wonderful and different romance! I seriously could not put the book done. Right from the beginning I wondered what could have happened to Marcus to make him a recluse. But Cali is a kind hearted woman and she refused to give up on him. She just knew he was a good man, because after all, he loved his cat, Jasper, and he treated his employees well. They strike up a friendship and go on some "innovative" dates [I won't give it away], that were both romantic and sad.I, along with Cali, wished [...]

    5. "Unexpected Gift" by Chantel Rhondeau (also found in Pets and Kisses Vol 1)What a truly magical and wonderful novella. It truly brings joy and love into the holiday season in a sweet and truly special way. I loved both Cali and Marcus. They are great characters who taught the readers a lot, without realizing they have done so. I enjoyed how their friendship turned into a relationship where both were able to heal one another, trust one another, and to truly define what true love and acceptance re [...]

    6. This story was so sweet! I loved the surprises and emotion throughout the whole story. Definitely a heart warmer for the holidays!

    7. Aspiring decorator Cali Johnson moves to New York City—lonely, afraid, and far from home during the holidays. When she finds a lost cat in her apartment building, she strikes up an odd friendship with his owner. Marcus Ritz is a horrible recluse who will only talk to her on the phone and refuses to meet face to face. As Christmas comes closer and Marcus helps her loneliness fade, Cali finds herself falling for the mysterious man. If only she knew what he was hiding.I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book. [...]

    8. Reading this book, I kept picturing Mel Gibson in a movie he made, which I'm not going to name, as there were no plot similarities. I kept thinking, though, that this man should have done more. Hard to write about without giving things away.I loved all the characters, including the cat. Cali came across as a little self-centered at first, thinking she could solve everyone's problems. She needed to grow in character as well as Marcus, and Chantel does a good job showing this. This book would make [...]

    9. Unexpected Gift is a cute read and part of the Christmas Pets and Kisses Collection. I thought the book to be clean, sweet, and romantic. Being a really short story, it takes no time to read. This is the first time reading anything by this author and I look forward to more by her. A perfect addition to Christmas reading. 5 stars.

    10. Unexpected Gift is a feel good Christmas story. It shows that even though most people are obsessed with appearances, when it involves the heart beauty is much more than skin deep. Love happy endings! <3

    11. This was a sweet Christmas story which can be read any time. Marcus and Cali with the help of a sweet cat named Jasper, found true love in a very different way. This was a sweet Beauty and the Beast story. It left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. This is a quick must read for anybody. I highly recommend this book and anything written by Chantel.
