    1. Really enjoyed this take on mermaids, their magic, and their world by author Zara Steen. I've only read a couple of books on mermaids so far, but I liked how both authors took the same concept and made it into something entirely different. Zara Steen presents a mermaid world within our modern world, peacefully co-existing while still maintaining its secrecy. The main character, Anya, is a young teen and has yet to transform into full "mermaidhood" when the book first opens. She's easy to identify [...]

    2. About 20 pages in I knew that I would give this book a pretty good review (which doesn't happen often for me). Heart of Shell tells the story of Anya, a teenage who has finally found her life mate, but has to stand by and watch as he interacts with his girlfriend. I felt like Anya was very relatable as a teen; she wasn't very confident in hersefl, she questioned her judgment and decisions constantly, and she basically let her mate, Merrick, do whatever he wanted. For me it seemed as if she was s [...]

    3. Heart of Shell is a YA Fantasy/Romance novel which offers up a very unique premise and a strong female protagonist, which I loved.Anya is a young Mermaid who has not yet begun to show any of the typical (and seemingly expected) Mermaid qualities - the least of which being exceptional beauty. My past/younger teenage self related immediately to Anya's inner turmoil; wondering why she looked so different not only from other mermaids but also from other normal kids her age. However, Zara Steen offer [...]

    4. This was a quick, sweet read. I enjoyed the world Zara created here. Beautiful descriptions, gorgeous mermen and I cannot wait for Anya to fully transcend, with Merrick.

    5. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Anya is your typical awkward, insecure teenage girl with perpetual bad hair days and braces; except she is not a typical teenage girl, she is part mermaid and part human.Anya is a bit of a late bloomer when compared to other mermaids her age because she has yet to reach the Mer equivalent of puberty, "transcendence." The fact that she has not developed into a full-fledged mermaid made it difficult for Anya to find a mate; until she [...]

    6. This novel is a fine example of foreshadowing and mastering the art of keeping the reader hooked. An unusual story, taking on the world of mermaids in a fresh and unique way, Steen wove a tale of romance, coming of age and self-discovery.Anya, the main character, doesn't seem to fit into any cookie cut world and is typically ok with that. Only her parents want to follow tradition and have her matched with her mate at a very early age so they can settle down and put in roots or maybe seaweed in t [...]

    7. A very interesting twist to a mermaid tale. I could not help but feel sorry for poor Anya awaiting for her Transcendance but she is strong headed teen and will not let people get to her, especially that annoying Gina ^ _ ^. All in all it was a good, light, magical and romantic story it left me with questions and aching for round two.Well done Zara nicely written.
