    1. Ramon Adams has an encyclopedic knowledge of the social life of cowboys on the range. In this one of his many books, he describes the role of the chuck wagon cook on the cattle drives and roundups. Adams is a great collector of amusing stories and colorful cowboy slang. If he knows one word for something, he probably knows half a dozen. The book provides a detailed description of the chuck wagon itself, how it's constructed and its contents organized, how it's cleaned and maintained, who has resp [...]

    2. Come an' Get It was very informative and took me back to the cowboy days when people lived in one room log cabins. It provided valuable insight into a cook's life and all it involved out on the range, not so much at the ranches.I can honestly say one had to be a tough cookie to be a range cook following the herd with the cowboys! What a life they led! The range cooks earned every chance to relax.I would recommend this book to anyone aspiring to be a writer of westerns. It would be a great refere [...]
