The big question with any Rose Christo novel: On a scale of OMG how many natives are going be massacred in this novel, where does this book rate between White Buffalo Calf Warriors and The Place Where They Cried? I'd say at about an 8.5. So yes, this is a sad story with few survivors and lots of betrayal, but as usual, it is beatifully written and the MC is fascinating.
