    1. Although I've had The Hunt for Atlantis and The Tomb of Hercules loaded up on my Kobo for ages, and have been eagerly anticipating my first adventure alongside Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase, The Valhalla Prophecy is actually my first encounter with the world of Andy McDermott - and I'm pleased to say it definitely won't be my last.Yes, it's formulaic and predictable, falls prey to pretty much all the clichés of the genre, and belongs to that catastrophic excavation side of archaeology, but that's [...]

    2. Rated 2.5This is an interesting story but is waaaayyyyyyyy too long. The story could have shed a hundred pages and would have been better for it, I guess the publisher required a certain amount of pages/words. The biggest problem with McDermott is his rather annoying habit of making the action scenes so long and overly detailed, sometimes a simple fight takes 5-7 pages to describe and this gets boring, well for me it does, so despite an interesting premise this is nothing but average.Come on Mr [...]

    3. 3 Eddie Stars"Is Nina here???""No, I came out here all my own 'cause I like collecting pine cones"Nina and Eddie discovered Atlantis, Excalibur HELL even freaking Eden, thwarted evil plans and offed masterminds, but now the IHA director and her self-appointed bodyguard/husband will take on the most personal and dangerous assignment.Valhalla and the myths of Vikings. Familiar faces will return to h(a)unt them and the race is once again on to save the world. But this time Eddie and Nina will reali [...]

    4. Sometimes what you really want to read is some balls-to-the-wall action writing. You want a book that reads like a film. You want action, adventure, humour and a smidge of archaeology thrown in for good measure. I am an unashamed fan of Andy McDermott's books. After I read the first book they quickly became launch day purchases and this one was no different. I made sure I'd finished whatever I was reading beforehand in preparation for this one being Whispered to my Kindle as I slept. And I read i [...]

    5. This was a giveaway I have never read anything by Andy McDermott before. I enjoy James Rollins so I thought I would give this a go. I have to say, I am now a fan. I am hooked and will continue to read more of Andy McDermott's books. This was book 9 in the series, but with subtle hints as to what has happened in the past, it was easy to read this one out of order. There was good pace to the story, and some fun characters to get to know. It was cool seeing McDermott pick main characters from Engl [...]

    6. Ninth novel starring husband and wife adventurers Eddie Chase and Nina Wilde. This time, Nina and Eddie are trying to find Valhalla, the legendary home of Norse warriors and also it seems of a deadly substance that the bad guys want to get their hands on. There is also a parallel storyline featuring Eddie and a woman called Natalia whom he was called on to save eight years ago in Vietnam. Will Nina and Eddie be able to save the world again? And what of the fate of Natalia? Loved this book, as I [...]

    7. I found my new favorite 'history's mysteries' author! This book about Viking myths and history was right up my alley. From finding runestones to solving ancient Viking mysteries of their afterlife, this is a long, detailed book full of global setting, today's politics, fast-paced action, exciting historical finds, hi-tech anticdotes, high speed chases, bad Russians, (some) good Americans and one hysterical Britsh soldier whose quips kept me laughing - and crying - during my read. I will definite [...]

    8. The Valhalla Prophecy is the most action packed and intense book so far in the series. Nina and Eddie head to Stockholm after a Norse ruinstone is stolen from a museum. It is believed that the ruinstone will lead to Valhalla. We see flashbacks to a mission Eddie had eight years ago in Vietnam. Hoyt is once again leading the opposition against Nina and Eddie. Eddie past comes back to haunt him.The ending of The Valhalla Prophecy is shocking. I didn't see it coming.

    9. I have read all the books in this series and have found they have got more ridiculous as times goes by. I understand it is an action novel, but I found it dull highly predictable and the writing was awful. If there is another 'adventure' in the future, I will not be reading it,

    10. This is the complete review as it appears at my blog dedicated to reading, writing (no 'rithmatic!), movies, & TV. Blog reviews often contain links which are not reproduced here, nor will updates or modifications to the blog review be replicated here. Graphic and children's reviews on the blog typically feature two or three images from the book's interior, which are not reproduced here.Note that I don't really do stars. To me a book is either worth reading or it isn't. I can't rate it three- [...]

    11. This is book is one that I will not recommend to anyone. The only reason I put two stars rating is the storyline in the book. Otherwise all the dialogues are full of "funny" quotes and expressions. And when I mean all - it is really in all the time some of the characters speak each other, they are super annoying, by telling some witty joke. Edie Chase is more super action hero than all of the actors in The Expandbles movie combine And I really don't understand why all the time everyone is tellin [...]

    12. This story was way too long than what it should have been. It seemed to lag in many chapters. I’ve tried to like this author but I struggle with his writing. The storyline is good but I just could not get into this book.

    13. Better than many of the previous. McDermott spends the early part of the book alternating between the present and search for Valhalla and the past when Eddie was on his first post-SAS job. It added a bit of greater depth.

    14. Started out a page turner and about the middle of the book quickly became boring. I abandoned this book on around page 400 due to the monotony of the writing. In the end, I really could have cared less about the outcome of this book.

    15. I got a little tired of them being in trouble so many times and getting out of it. The plot was good though and I really liked the ending.

    16. Another, OMG, fast-paced, action-packed archeological thriller, with more twists that a roller coaster!. Love Eddie, love Nina, love history, love action = fabulous read!

    17. Eddie & Nina on the road again! Full of action and humourous one liners. This series would make great movies.

    18. The ninth instalment of Nina Wilde's and Eddie Chase's adventures delivers once again as a fast paced adventure this time as they hunt for the legendary Valhalla. We have been with these characters since 2008 and what a journey they have been on, six years on and they are finally looking towards a future for just the two of them. The novel begins in New York with the two of them discussing the prospect of having a child together (a very long awaited child I hasten to add) which quickly spirals in [...]

    19. For fans of James Rollins and Matthew Reilly comes the new heart-stopping, globe-spanning adventure in Andy McDermott’s explosive series featuring American archaeologist Nina Wilde and ex-SAS bodyguard Eddie ChaseSTERIOUS RUNESTONES. AN ANCIENT VIKING MYTH. AND A PROPHECY OF LIFE OR DEATH.  In a Stockholm museum, thieves steal an enormous Norse runestone, but not before killing a security guard. When Nina Wilde, head of the International Heritage Agency (IHA), and her husband, ex-mercenary Ed [...]

    20. This one opens with a bang, literally. In the Barents Sea, an archeological site destroyed, along with the archeologist who wasn’t supposed to be there. Showing that it doesn’t pay to steal. I love Eddie and Nina’s discussion on whether to try to have a baby, but we all knew it would get put on hold and eventually derailed by more adventures. This one has them following the legendary myths of the Norse gods, Valhalla and Ragnarok. So we get all the fascinating Viking lore. And again the wa [...]

    21. For fans of James Rollins and Matthew Reilly comes the new heart-stopping, globe-spanning adventure in Andy McDermott’s explosive series featuring American archaeologist Nina Wilde and ex-SAS bodyguard Eddie Chase. MYSTERIOUS RUNE STONES ANCIENT VIKING MYTHD A PROPHECY OF LIFE OR DEATH. In a Stockholm museum, thieves steal an enormous Norse rune stone, but not before killing a security guard. 22. One of the better efforts from Andy McDermott, the archaeologist and bodyguard wife & husband pair of Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase are back in their newest effort on the trail of the legendary Valhalla. The 'eitr' from the pits of the snake Migard has the potential to wipe out the entire planet with its toxicity. In an interesting twist on things, the Soviets are the good guys this time around ready to stop anybody from weaponizing the eitr going as far as to even launch a nuke at the location [...]

    23. I really enjoyed this installment of Nina & Eddie's Adventure. McDermott changes it up by weaving two story lines throughout the novel: the present day expedition, and one of Eddie's first merc missions in Vietnam. By slowly introducing Eddie's backstory with the present day expedition, the intrigue and intensity of the novel is increased the further you get into the book. Through-out all the twist and turns, the novel remains thoroughly enjoyable and unpredictable (with a small caveat if yo [...]

    24. This book was a First Read giveaway. The Valhalla Prophecy is the latest archaeo/historical thriller from Andy McDermott.I am a sucker for this genre. While there is small liklihood of an earth-shattering revelation and rarely will a reader find great literature there, there is still the fun and excitement of discovery. Even though I know the end-game of thrillers with an archaeological or historical premise, they can usually give me a, "can't put this down" fixation. The, "what if" captivates!T [...]

    25. I received a free copy of The Valhalla Prophecy from in exchange for an honest review. I've always had an interest in legends, and when I saw the title for this I really wanted to read it. It however was not what I expected, it was more action adventure, then about legends and myths. Action adventure is not something I'm really big on in books. I made myself finish the book because I received it for free, despite that it wasn't all bad.The Valhalla Prophecy was an action packed read from start [...]

    26. The Valhalla Prophecy is a great, entertaining adventure loaded with plenty of archaeology and fighting off bad guys! Nina and Eddie are called to a Swedish museum where a fellow archaeologist was scene to a crime where a large runestone was stolen. Soon it is discovered that the markings from the stone tell of a way to find the mythical Valhalla as well as the discovery of a horrible substance encased in the Earth. Now the couple must regain possession of the runic information in order to beat [...]

    27. To say that this book is a page turner is an understatement. To say that I couldn't put it down, while true, doesn't do it justice. McDermott keep you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, and wanting to scream all at the same time. The characters of Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase are colorful and realistic even while their antics border on the impossible. McDermott makes you believe that every event can and is happening to these two. The thought of a substance as dangerous as "eitr" is dist [...]

    28. THE VALHALLA PROPHECY is a slam-bang action/adventure story with very enjoyable lead characters, villains dark enough to have you turning on the lights at night, and enough science babble to satisfy. This is the ninth outing for Nina Wilde, archeologist, and her former SAS/current bodyguard and husband, Eddie Chase. In this outing they are tracking down the path of Odin and Thor, seeking Valhalla, Rainbow Bridges and most of the Norse mythology. But we also learn more about Eddie and his life b [...]

    29. Indiana Jones and James Bond are finally in a story together. Actually THE VALHALLA PROPHECY stars Nina Wilde in the Indy role while her husband, Eddie Chase, fills in for Bond, but together they make an unstoppable team. In their latest adventure, the archeologist and her bodyguard/husband are on the track of Odin, Thor, the Rainbow Bridge and Valhalla. If you have read any of the past adventures with this duo you know that, no matter what they face, they will achieve their goal or die trying. [...]
