    1. inspiring read. However, I the writing style, in particular the word order, was often confusing - think Yoda. Unfamiliar British and/or agricultural vocabulary often left me wondering. Now I really want to make my own wine and beer and see our new garden can do this year. The ending, which I will not give away, left me sad. Lovely drawings by Sally Seymour.

    2. This is a must read for anyone thinking that there has to be more to life than office jobs and the mindless accumulation of stuff. So inspirational for anyone wanting to be self-sufficient in any way possible (even if you're not brave enough to go without electricity!).

    3. An inspiring read. For those who dream of a life of self sufficiency, John Seymour makes it seem so possible. He brings to life in your imagination their day to day toils almost as if you were there also. You can almost taste the good food they are producing and feel the satisfaction of long days doing hard work in the open air. A fantastic read for anyone interested in the lifestyle.

    4. Seymour is an insufferable prat through large parts of the book; and yet it does make for a fairly satisfying read. I am not convinced that I want a pony plow though.
