While Laermer discusses very interesting trends and makes some astute and poignant observations, the informal and highly subjective approach he takes ultimately revokes much of his legitimacy as a trend spotter. 2011 is more a work of social commentary than a straightforward look at future trends and discussion of potential implications. Furthermore, Laermer’s personal opinion is so pervasive throughout his writing, it is impossible to believe that his research has been conducted in a balanced [...]

    2. This was recommended as a good read while travelling. Not only is that true but the short chapters and humorous prose make this book very accessible. A couple of chapters, such as Savvy Muscular Old People and Thoughts about Generation Broke, really struck a cord and I re-read them. Good book with lots of wit and good advice.

    3. I enjoy future trend books. Laermer's book left me disappointed, however. Many of his observations and predictions are interesting, but his writing style did not appeal to me.
