    1. I picked up this book because it was recommended on oyate. My primary purpose in choosing this book, though, has nothing to do with the fact that it's a retelling of a Potawatomi story, though that's nice and I'm actually going to talk about it in a minute. I just picked it because it takes place in NYC and there aren't very many picture books that show the city I live in.First things first, let's talk about the story. The barebones of the story are that Coyote goes up to the top of the WTC (I'm [...]

    2. This book is a clever and modern take on a classic folktale character. Coyote lives on the Potawatomi reservation and wants to move to New York so that he can find a job. "Unemployment was high on the Potawatomi reservation, and he couldn't find a job." He goes to New York and finds a job at the World Trade Center as a Rodent Control Officer (haha). As he stands on top of the towers he falls in love with a star and begs her to dance with him. She does so and when he wants to be let down she drop [...]

    3. This is another book from Tales of the People. In this version, a traditional folk tale was modernized. Coyote, the trickster, sets off for New York City to find a job. He is hired as the Rodent Control Officer at the World Trade Center. He found that he missed his home. At night he would stand on the observation deck and look at the stars. He falls in love with one beautiful star and desires to dance with her. They dance through the sky together. But he tires of dancing and feels lonely, so he [...]

    4. A fun twist on a classic native American trickster, Coyote in Love With A Star is modern, but still includes all the elements of a good story. Such stories have always helped people learn lessons that will help them in life. Being set in pre-Sept.11th, New York city, Coyote's encounters with the world are easier to relate too. But, we still learn from his mistaken desire to ride on a star and the consequence of wanting something that is not meant to be. Like many creation tales, the book ends wi [...]

    5. Sweet fairy tale about a fish-out-of-water coyote's first trip to NYC, made all the more poignant by the fact that he gets a job at the World Trade Center.
