    1. This easy-to-read semi-thriller definitely kept my attention. Based in the small towns outside of San Antonio such as Bandera, Utopia, D'Hanis and others, if you live around this area, you'll particularly enjoy the scenery and be touched with the woven plots and characters.A small town game warden faces a handful of potentially deadly and dangerous challenges in his life and job as he deals with poachers, immigration issues, rural creeps and drug lords. The war on drugs affects Texas every day a [...]

    2. Monty Kilpatrick is a Game Warden in the small town of Utopia Texas just going through the motions, pretty much set on auto pilot. There are cigarettes to smoke, poachers to catch, a wife he might be losing, and a memory he can't deal with.Juan Diaz, the leader of the drug cartel, is a man to be feared. He'll kill you for answering him the wrong way. He's about to become a part of Monty's world. Both men are motivated by love, honor and justice. As opposite as they are, they have these things in [...]

    3. Utopia, Texas is an action thriller, but it is also something more. It is a story of Monty Kilpatrick, a father who lost his son, a husband whose marriage hasn't been the same since his son died, a former vet who couldn't take the way some pet owners treated their pets better than their kids, and a game warden who used his job to hide from all the parts of his life that he couldn't face. This is a story of one man's discovery of the holes in his life and how he can find a way to fill them. You wil [...]

    4. Dr. Monty Kilpatrick’s life changed the day his ten-year-old son drowned. Now, he and his wife live in the tiny town of Utopia, Texas while he works as the local game warden. Now, suddenly his life and town are experiencing dramatic changes, and Kilpatrick will need every bit of knowledge he learned in the military to survive. This once peaceful area now has poachers, contract killers, and drug battles to contend with, all the while trying to keep the people he cares about safe.As a resident o [...]

    6. This was an interesting book outside the genres I usually read. I was gifted the book on Twitter as part of a book club that included the author.Monty is a game warden in Texas, but due to the nature of the job, is also a policeman. Throughout the course of this quick read he has to deal with domestic violence, drug dealers/smugglers, poachers, a distant wife, a temptation, murders, injuries, and much more.A lot of headhopping shows you everyone's point of view which in some cases is pretty inte [...]

    7. You just gotta love our hero, Monty. With a tragedy in his life he can’t quite get past, he works too much as a game warden in south Texas. Mainly concerned with problem wildlife and poachers, this being borderlands Texas, he occasionally trips over cartel business and has to get involved. Therein lies the rub. There are lots of moving parts in this story but the author does a good job of keeping it all in line and resolves the storylines well. This one’s worth your money. Received free copy [...]

    8. Oh, I had hopes for this book. I think the author had very good plot ideas, but should have developed both the characters and the plot more thoroughly. I can easily see this book being expanded to a series but instead he jammed it all in one very quick read. A real plus for me is that this has peaked my interest to read Texas fiction.

    9. The plot line was far better than the actual execution. Specifically, when a bullet pierced fuel tank is referred to as 'injured', I suspect that the author's high school English teacher is grimacing more than I did.
