    1. This was a bit too cumbersome a book to be enjoyable reading,even for an academic study. The author did not manage, in my opinion, to adequately link his theoretical ponderings about discourse as a result of history to the developments of English poetry since the Renaissance - I would have expected a more thorough and systematic analysis of how the poetry of each time displays discourse as language, ideology and subjectivity.
