    1. I COULD REREAD THESE LADIES ANY DAY OF THE WEEK AND STILL BE HAPPY okay that's too much capslock down selfI have a great deal of fondness for the arc of Tarma and Kethry, and it holds up well to rereads. But I am nostalgiabinging right now.

    2. Strong female leads? Check. Interesting world building? Check. Descriptive writing? Check. I absolutely loved this book and was somewhat embarrassed that I had not been an avid reader of Mercedes Lackey before.

    3. SatisfyingTarma and Kethry, sword lady and mage, in 3 stories. The first two are full books, the third is a series of short stories which belong in the same world and with the same characters. Some of these I had read before but some were new. Any Valdemar book makes my day, and though Companions and Heralds only have a passing and minor role here, this book is one I will read and read again with pleasure.

    4. These books were my first introduction to Mercedes Lackey. I love the world that she's created in these and the Valdemar books, and they make for some great escapism when this world gets me down too much. Bonus points for having women as the two main characters, and providing a refreshing take on Sword & Sorcery fiction.

    5. Majestic, sweeping and heroic, this omnibus involving two women’s determination to rise above their difficulties and found a school (a very unusual goal in such novels) is more than an epic saga. It manages to interject humor, wit, tenderness and genuine warmth between its very different main characters. There’s a lot of backstory here, prequels that should probably be read in order to gain a sharper view of certain subjects referred to in its pages. But this trio of novels is so skillfully c [...]

    6. I enjoy Mercedes Lackey, these stories didn't disappoint. Lots of action but plenty of character stuff too and horse whispering to boot.

    7. I started out confused when I began this book. I didn't realize that the original story linking the two characters had been told in another book so I had to piece things together. Once I figured out who was who I found myself enjoying it very much. I love reading about new species like the kyree, and the eventual introduction of and explanation of heralds. I liked this enough to track down the first story in the series so that I can read for myself how the team got together.

    8. Mercedes has created the fabulous world of Valdemar. It is chock full of Magic, mystery, romance, suspense. One of the best fantasy series I've ever read.
