    2. Gremlins was just a blast to read. I have never seen the movie but I heard enough about it to want to read a novelization of it and I really thought that this book was a perfect blend of amusing horror and thrilling scenes. I laughed out loud several times while reading, especially when the old woman met her end when one of the gremlins messed with her chair lift. This is one of those books that sounds absolutely terrible if you read the plot summary on the book before starting. I usually do thi [...]

    3. If you want to keep a Mogwai as a pet, please remember these three warnings:1. Do not expose them to light.2. Do not get them wet.3. Above all, no matter how they cry, no matter how much they beg, never, never feed them after midnight.Well, the rules are created to be broken. If no one break the rules, there is no story about gremlins.I've watched the movie a long time ago and it scared me a lot. And this book reminded me how a cute little thing could be a clever, mischievous, intelligent, and d [...]

    4. Okay film novelization; it explains further the origin of the gremlins and where they came from but if you've already seen the film, you aren't missing much and this book really isn't worth it. I was really disappointed by all the choppy sentences and limited vocabulary.

    7. This book scared the you-know-what outta me. I had to be in middle school when I read this because I had graduated to Dean Koontz (full-on horror) by high school.

    8. The movie, when first seen alone, late at night, scared the crap out of me as I eyed my own fireplace. The book was equally creepy.

    9. Damn, this has to be one of the greatest tie-in novels ever written. It goes into detail of the origin of the Mogwai, it answers numerous questions you probably didn't think to ask and others that probably annoyed you when you were a kid.The beauty of the novel, apart from the exceptional writing, is the history of the Mogwai and more details of previous Gremlin assaults; we hear more of the events that hit Kingston Falls on that unfortunate weekend and above everything else it proves that both [...]

    10. I was initially optimistic, given that this novelization starts out with some background information on the origin of the Mogwai, but in the end there weren't enough differences to overlook the less than excellent writing. So-so.

    11. Thought it was a really good read! Had a few new scenes/concepts wich I won't spoil! If your a novelization or gremlins fan or both I would highly recommend it! It could have been alot shorter tho

    13. It's the fluff that you ready between serious books. Just like the movie except for a few things have changes, like they fill out the back story of Gizmo and where he came from. There are also a few spots where the book is narrated from Gizmo's point of view. One thing that bothered me was that in the beginning of the book, the old man who runs the shop may or may not have told the dad character that Gizmo was a Mogwai (species). However it is clear that in his haste to purchase the Mogwai from t [...]

    14. In this book, a strange creature called a Mogwai comes into the possession of a clueless family that fails to head the most important warnings: Don't let these creatures get wet, and don't feed them after midnight. The spawn of the Mogwai end up becoming enemies that threaten the safety of the town, and they have to fight a horror they are ill-equipped to handle.I read the book as a young child because I enjoyed the movie, but it was a little bit too scary for me. Nevertheless, I was intrigued b [...]

    15. Much better than the movie (duh, there are rarely exceptions to that rule).I have always been a huge fan of The Gremlins movies, even as a child. This book answered many of my questions that the films provoked in me in my childhood years. Such as: Where did they come from (kinda answered) 2: Why didn't the snow melt beneath their feet and cause them to multiply. And more! Read this shizzzzzzzzzzzzz

    16. Read this as a kid after liking the movie. It had too much horror for my taste--and, come to think of it, the gruesomeness of the movie scared me too--but what I really liked about it was that Gizmo, the Mogwai, had point-of-view scenes. So you understood what he might have been thinking and learned more about his intelligence and his perspective. It was sort of creepy, actually. I didn't like when people died in the book, though.

    17. "I am no longer a Mogwai, Stripe thought.I am a Gremlin. He had no idea how he knew the word, just as he had no knowledge how or why the physical metamorphosis had occurred."It has its moments of charm and overall has a b-movie campiness which is fun but for the most part it is very bleak and miserable and takes more of the darkness from the black-comedy film in which it is based. Also if you want to hear the thoughts of Gizmo and the gremlins you may learn to prefer the bad guys

    18. It was a pretty good companion to the movie, but my initial impression was not very positive. The portrayal of the old man who first has Gizmo was pretty racist in the movie, what with all the "East Asian Mystery" thing they had going on, but in the book this portrayal seems to be taken up more than a notch. Other than that, you get to see a few more of the Gremlin's pranks and you get more of the Mogwai perspective.

    20. As dark as the movie, maybe even a little darker. The author clearly tried to show off his vocabulary, though, which resulted in the characters (Billy and Kate, in particular) sounding much older than they were supposed to be. I liked the conversations between Gizmo and the Gremlins; they obviously weren't in the movie, but they added some depth to the novel.

    21. Marty got me this book because we watched the movie while I was in town. I read the entire thing on the train ride down to LA. It's pretty trashy fiction. It might be interesting if you had just seen the movie, but this is one time that I think the movie is better than the book. It does answer the question as to where Mogwai come from. Outer space, of course.

    22. The copy I have of this book, which I haven't read yet is falling apart, the pages are falling out but I at least laminated the cover to protect it from further damage. I need to buy a replacement copy of this book, so I can read it.I love Gizmo he's my favourite he's so adorable.

    23. It was about as campy and silly as the movie, and not a bad option when I got to 'damn, I literally have nothing to read and have to pick the first thing I see'.
