    1. I got off on the wrong foot with this one. The first thing that happens is that a man tries to steal the heroine's horse. Being telepathic, the horse warns her about this, but then goes on to say of the thief, "Oh, my, Caz, he's a handsome devil!" This strikes me as odd in so many ways. No, not the telepathic horse, actually - this is fantasy, after all - but the idea that a horse would have any concept of what would constitute a handsome man. And then there's a bantering exchange between the tw [...]

    2. 3.5 stars This was a fast paced fantasy story, jam packed with exciting events. From the first chapter I was thrown straight into the story and personally I do enjoy a good little build up before the main part of the story begins. But I can barely complain because all of the story was laid out for you and you were aware of what had happened and what was going on. You really couldn’t get bored with this story, there was constantly something going on keeping you excited and on your toes. Sometim [...]

    3. Cheryl's a friend on , and I was pleased to read her Pool of Souls for review. Not long ago, Cazlina's brother left their home village for the army – theirs is a righteous cause, a rebellion against a monstrously evil queen, and he wants to be part of it. And as the book opens, Caz wants to follow: she and her horse Miris are on their way to join him. The two of them, Caz and Miris, have a bond that is strange and unique – as far as the girl knows no one else can communicate with animals, bu [...]

    4. Cazlina’s brother decides to go join General Viadon’s rebel army and fight against the evil Queen Saranor. Unwilling to be left behind and alone, Cazlina follows him. Along the way, she meets Jorin, who she doesn’t really like at first. The story focuses on Cazlina and everything that she faces and all the trials they face together in their attempt to defeat Saranor.Okay, that is a really brief summation of the story. It obviously gets deeper than that, otherwise it would only be maybe a t [...]

    5. This novel is the Authors second fantasy novel, and the first she has self-published.The main protagonist appears as soon as the book is opened and, unfortunately, I really didn’t find anything about her to like at all. Yes, she is spirited and feisty but the way in which she was written just left her feeling a little flat to me. Some readers may find her trait of continually sniping at people to be endearing but in the end, for me, it just became annoying. Unfortunately this is not the first [...]

    6. I took my sweet time with this book. The author has a distinct writing style that flows and pleasing to the eyes. She has a way of forming sentences that sounds formal yet casual at the same time. The book is also straightforward and easy to follow, which I think readers who like light fantasy would truly enjoy. This story is about a girl who loves her brother dearly and wishes to join a noble cause: to stand against the tyranny of the evil queen Saranor. I enjoyed the pacing and the adventures C [...]

    7. Price i paid: £0.00 (Free promotion) Price i would willingly pay for it: £1.50 - £2.00Would i buy this book as a paperback: Yes, but i would not be lining up outside waterstones on release day.The Bad:1. We didn't get to explore Caz's powers deeply enough. They were there but to my mind they weren't developed or utilised enough.2. Some of the characters were not developed enough. Jorin for example, he was obviously the love interest from the start but we never really learned anything about hi [...]

    8. Pool of Souls started out a little slow for me as the author Cheryl Landmark wove the story. But with details and descriptions of another world, which is inhabited by her young heroine Cazlina, who has the power to communicate by mental telepathy with animals, I soon found myself pulled into the story. Cazlina is a strong young woman who never waits to be rescued but in fact does the rescuing while surprising even herself by always trusting her instincts. This book seems mainly directed toward a [...]

    9. Pool of SoulsBy Cheryl LandmarkCazlina Narzan has an extraordinary gift; she is able to communicate telepathically with animals. This very gift turns out to be highly instrumental when she decides to join the army set out to destroy the evil queen Saranor’s reign. Along the way she joins forces with her brother, Gareth, and an unlikely ally a horse thief whom she met while he was in the process of trying to steal her very own horse. Together this unusual group of soon to be heroes destroy the [...]

    10. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was hard to put down once I picked it up. I loved the connection between all characters involved. I had some laughs and cried even a few times. I hope that the last sentence meant that she is going to continue the series. I would love to read more about Caz's bravery. Maybe even Niko's bravery and some more of his gift being used. When he used it, it made me laugh! I could just imagine the look on their faces! I will definitely be re-reading this book!
