    1. This is one of two (so far?) comics biographies by the team of Maier, a respected psychologist who has herself published several NON-comics scholarly books, and respected artist Anne Simon. I also just read their Marx, which I also liked, though this was more fun than Marx because, well, Marx was a little crazier and Freud is not so well respected as he once was for his theories. And Maier is a psychologist, so she maybe knows this territory a bit better than political philosophy. So, as most pe [...]

    2. Reading other reviews I was surprised that people actually were expecting a deep introduction to the Freudian theories. Surely this comix doesn't offer it.But it's a wonderful brief introduction into Freud's biography, hystory surrounding him and basics of his methods. Presented with nice humour and amusing drawings. I really enjoyed those 30 min I've spent with this book :)

    3. I read Maier & Simon’s graphic take on Marx at the end of last year and I was really impressed with the balance of humour and historical background in that book. This is delivered to the same high standard. The art work is excellent, it’s quirky, playful and inventive and we get the basic elements on Freud’s background and life as well as an explanation of some of his key concepts like transference and the Oedipus complex. We also get a summary of some of his most familiar cases like [...]

    5. I've read and enjoyed the other two biographies by Maier so wanted to read this first one. It's unfair to dislike a book because of the subject when one chooses to read it but I just couldn't stand this. I can't understand why anyone would think Freud was a "genius". Nothing he said makes any sense and he's nuttier than any case he describes. I just rolled my eyes all the way through this.

    6. Ah, the fast and loose style that felt mildly irksome in their "Marx" book feels more natural here, I liked it.

    8. The penultimate page shows Freud yelling at the TV about how the 21st century needs him it was the end of the book and yet I wasn't really sure why it does?

    9. Clever, interesting life of Freud. Art work veers towards the clever and quirky rather than the beautiful, but Freud's complex legacy and febrile social context is well elucidated. Probably aspects of this are a bit much for younger teens.

    11. A HISTORICAL GRAPHIC NOVEL THAT IS BOTH BRILLIANT AND ABSURDReading Freud felt like I was delving into the subconscious mind of Sigmund Freud. With a backdrop of impending World War 2, Freud’s personal life, theories and angst are narrated with a string of chronological vignettes that seem like they’ve been plucked from the bowels of a dream. In only 56 pages, writer and psychoanalyst Corinne Maier does an amazing job touching on everything from Freud’s early days of researching cocaine an [...]

    15. Some interesting points, since Freud was important in the history of psychology. He was also pretty weird, though, and this graphic biography jumps around quite a bit. Probably not something I would have picked up on my own.

    16. Do not expect nothing more than a simple introduction on Freud. You will not learn anything about analysis or dreams.Actually, you can barely know anything with this book, only if you don't know Freud at all.

    17. Nobrow! Looking good as always! Providing a moderate amount of information on your subjecccct. Taking amusing flights of fancy. Fun stuff, light touch, Freud is weird, guys. Running out of reviewing steam!

    18. This was pretty superficial - if you knew nothing about Freud, I don't know whether this would be more enlightening or confusing. I can't really figure out who it would be written for. The occasional humor might be the closest it comes to a saving grace.

Consigliato

    20. I don't think you can have a 'very short introduction' to Freud (the actual VSI book is anything but), but I really enjoyed this weird little romp through his Greatest Hits.

    22. The art style here is so wacky and wild and really makes it flow. It is very short, but yeah since we don't take Freud too seriously anymore that's probably for the best!

    23. Very straightforward introduction to Freud's life and work. I did learn that freud means "Joy". Dr. Joy puts a whole new spin on things does it not?
