    1. 3.5 Kazan's initial foray into playwriting shows she really has writing chops - but also some of the faults of a first time playwright - namely, too many 'issues' to be dealt with successfully in one play, and a tendency to present exposition via dialogue that doesn't ring quite naturalistic. (The extra half point is for the 'in' joke about Faulknernce he also used the Biblical figure in the title of one of his most famous books!)

    2. A compelling read about a deliciously dysfunctional literary family! And a play that actually translates pretty well on paper, too.
