  • The growing field of literature and science is for the first time given a fully theorized overview Using case studies from a three hundred year history, Sleigh focuses on literary form and argues that novels did not just reflect or inform areas of science, but were part of a broader, ongoing cultural negotiation about how to read things.

    1. Sleigh's analysis of the form of the novel, and its development parallel to science, if fascinating. I think it lends even more credence to her argument that she deliberately eschews the obvious choice of discussing science fiction texts in favour of other, more traditional, literature, to demonstrate how the methods of science influenced narratives, and vice versa.
