    1. An enjoyable collection of tales about tracking down spices around the world and adventures along the way. I'd like to see a follow-up, as this book is 15 years old now. I was enthused about going to the spice store (in a Sydney suburb) that the author talks about setting up, but sadly it appears that the business is entirely online now, or in "stockists".

    2. Spices, their origins, uses, flavours, tweaks and possibilities are one of my all time favourite things when it comes to cooking. Which makes Hemphill's SPICE NOTES one of my favourite reference books. SPICE TRAVELS is more a travelogue, story of Ian and wife's Liz travelling to various spice producing places and meeting up with people behind the trade.Whilst the information about how the various spices was interesting, there was something about the book that made the personal elements less inte [...]
