    1. This was disappointingly not vegan friendly. There are a fair amount of vegan side dishes and a couple vegan or easily veganizable entrees, but they aren't labeled (I saw the word vegan in the book 1 time), so to find them I had to skim every recipe and keep getting disappointed when things weren't vegan or easy vegan alternatives weren't mentioned. Like, was the 1 egg really necessary in all 3 latke recipes? I've made vegan latkes many times and they're always delicious. It was also annoying wh [...]

    2. I made the Black Bean and Plantain Stuffed Peppers from the Cinco de Mayo chapter of this book and they were tasty and beautiful, if a little on the time-consuming side. Besides containing relatively well-written tasty recipes, this book is handy for its many make-ahead items and detailed menu plans. I like the broad set of holidays she addresses, from Ramadan (Moroccan/Turkish cuisine) to Christmas (Italian) to Easter (Greek) to Passover.     3. I took a seitan cooking class with Myra Kornfeld and really enjoyed it. Her recipes are great. I was interested in trying more of her recipes and have heard the Voluptuous Vegan is good. I found this one on freecycle and scooped it up. I've tried a couple recipes and they were good, but not too many vegan recipes and I'd rather go with a tried and true recipe than try to convert a recipe. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a used copy of The Voluptuous Vegan

    4. On reading through this, I saw several dishes that I would like to try. So, now I have a plan for next week.

    5. Roasted cherry tomatoes on p. 102 were excellent. Lots of other interesting recipes in here that I look forward to trying.
