    1. This was an unputdownable book for me.s one of those you pick up whenever you have a spare 10 mins. Great characters and insight into relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

    3. I have read all of Erica James'books. She has the knack of creating an emotional rollercoaster which makes us laugh one minute and cry the next. She writes light romance but not quite so light as to be chick-lit. Having said that, I don't think this is one of her best. I found the characters a little too black and white and stereotyped. The 'bad' characters especially had nothing at all to redeem them. There was also a little to much reliance on co-incidence. After the first few chapters, I did [...]

    4. Ugh. I had a difficult time even getting into this book. The characters were over the top awful which made it unbelievable. Even the main characters, who I think I was supposed to like/root for annoyed the crap out of me. I found myself skipping ahead just to see if it was going to get any better. It didn't.

    5. I love every book Erica James has written. (I think it's 18?) They grab you from the very first page, they never get boring, and I don't want to stop reading or want it to end. I read this one (430 pages) in 1 day! Her characters and plots are unique and interesting. You never feel like you've heard it before.

    6. Another heart warming story from Erica James. What I love about Erica's books is that they are so realistic. You can relate with the characters and recognize their flaws. This story revolves around three individuals Ethan, Maggie and Ella who have made themselves a promise to change one thing about themselves.Ethan has sworn to keep away from women and one night stands Maggie has sworn to stand up for herselfElla has sworn to move on from the toxic relationship that she just got out offThe story [...]

    7. Bought this book for many years already but didn't manage to finish it. Lately I just try reading it again and wow.is book is good. A lengthy book but with short, interesting chapters. A very real story as to what is going in most people's life now. It is a matter of what we want and can we do anything to change the life we have now. I enjoyed every chapters in this book. Great story and characters. Wish this book can be made into a movie too! Kudos Erica James! :-)

    8. What a great read, so many of us must be able to identify with Maggie Stormde me laugh out loud on many occasions .cially Ethan singing in the garden!

    9. Probably a 2.75 star rating is more appropriate. Fairly sweet and readable, but nothing outstanding. A nice light read, which is all I am up for at the moment!

    10. Terrible people do selfish things to make themselves feel better. Well-written characters but not particularly empathetic.

    11. Erica James has written a smart, funny and sometimes painful look at the intersecting lives of three people from seemingly different backgrounds. Maggie Storm cleans houses for the wealthy snobs who looks down on her. Ella Moore has a little more credibility but is still considered the hired help. And Ethan Edwards attempts to continue paying for these luxuries while knowing, deep down, he has to make some serious changes. The story is not a romance so if you're looking for lots of page time with [...]

    12. Maggie is the put upon wife of "Mr Blobby", aka Dave. She cleans other peoples' houses all day only to return home for more of the same for her unappreciative husband and son. The highlight of her week is the stolen afternoon reading romantic novels in the library. She dreams of a better life but her inability to stand up for herself means she probably faces only further drudgery and the occasional night at the bingo with her mum's cronies, unless she can change. An unexpected windfall and meeti [...]

    13. Erica James books have always been a source of enjoyment for me. Yes she produces Chick Lit romance books but she always manages to integrate a dose of realism without it becoming too depressing. In this book Erica's writing style is as ever so easy to get along with. You are swept away with the characters as they are introduced to you and you find yourself feeling like you want to be a part of what is going on.In this case it is meeting the three main characters and their husbands' wives or chil [...]

    14. I’d originally picked up Promises, Promises in October, and didn’t get through more than 30 pages before other things came between us. I finally picked it up again, because I wanted to know what happens.drey’s thoughts:Two women’s stories are told in Promises, Promises. Ella, whose heart was broken by a man who couldn’t stand up to his daughter’s sabotaging their relationship. Maggie, who’s tired of being the doormat everyone walks on – including her husband and son.Ella has move [...]

    15. Really a 3.5Maggie Storm is an unhappy woman. She is in a loveless marriage and cleans houses for a living. At least two of her clients are vicious rich women who treat Maggie as if she’s a second rate citizen. Maggie has never had the backbone to stick up for herself or to go after what she wants.Ella Moore is fresh out of a long relationship. She’s purchased her own home and her business is holding steady even in the tough economy. Ella is finding herself and while she misses her ex, her l [...]

    16. Ethan is something of a womaniser - but who can blame him, married to the shallow, materialistic (albeit attractive) Francine. Their cleaner Maggie is married to Dave, who could best be described as a sexist slob so she dreams of romance and loses herself in library books. Then there's Ella, who is commissioned by Francine to paint a mural in her dining room. Ella has just broken up from Lawrence due to the continual aggression from his teenage daughter. However she gets along extremely well wit [...]

    17. Ella has just stepped out of a seven year old relationship after realizing that her partner’s daughter would never accept her, no matter what she did. She is determined to stay single, and promises herself to not let her heart rule her head, ever again.Maggie is married to a man who does not appreciate her at all. She run around earning money working as a cleaning lady and is treated like dirt by both her employers and her family. All she wants is to stand up for herself and she promises herse [...]

    18. Maggie is married from Mr Blobby. She works as a maid in other people's houses. Maggie wasn't happy with her marriage. She enjoys reading romantic novels. Maggie's dream was to have a better life. Maggie is a housekeeper to Ethan Edwards, he owns his own business and his wife loves to spend his money. Ethan Edward was very attractive man with attractive smile. Ethan Edward was also unhappy with his marriage. His wife best friend always throws herself on him. Ethan wanted to know Ella much more [...]

    19. Ella fell in love with a widower with two children. One child accepts her, the other hates her and is as difficult as it is possible to be.Maggie is married to a slob of a man, and suffers the tirades of a truly obnoxious mother-in-law who treates her badly.Ethan is married to a trophy wife who loves his bank balance, and is only interested in showing off her wealth and superiority to anyone who might be impressed. She is cold towards Ethan, who, perhaps unsurprisingly, seeks physical and ultima [...]

    20. As you are well into this story, you really wonder how Erica James will resolve the issues, but she does and I think rather well and believably. Maggie is a cleaner - of mostly rich people's homes, looked down upon by the people she works for and treated like a dogsbody by her slob of a husband. Most of the time when the story revolves around her home life it is extremely frustrating as you are desperate for her to develop a backbone. Eventually she does. Ella is a more independent free spirit w [...]

    21. I would recommend this book as a nice, cheery summer read, its short chapters make it an easy read and its positive messages mean it'll put you in a nice mood. I've never read anything by this author before, i'd say it doesn't attempt to be anything too fancy, it hits the mark in terms of a nice easy chick lit book. As for characters, some I could quite imagine, others (who were far less prevalent so I won't be too judgemental) were not written particularly well, the teenage daughter characters [...]

    22. I have read all of Erica James'books. She has the knack of creating an emotional rollercoaster which makes us laugh one minute and cry the next. 23. Promises, Promises is a story of three people, unhappy in their current relationships and how they manage to get through each day. Maggie is a woman whose husband, to me is a real jerk with a mother from hell, Ella is an interior designer who is doing some interior painting work for Ethan and his wife, I love how as the story goes on each person evolves and how Maggie, Ella and Ethan's lives intertwine with each other. I especially liked the character of Maggie and how she finally stands up for [...]
